It’s the third week of Little Athletics this weekend – how EXCITING! We had another FANTASTIC turn out last Saturday and now have over 300 registered members. Please keep supporting and encouraging any trialists that attend (it’s always a bit daunting for the little ones at the start) – and we hope that the majority will sign-up for the full season.
This week’s email covers the following topics:
1. Saturday 22nd October
2. Halloween Little Aths – Friday 28th October
3. Club points and childrens’ results (how to access them – almost real time results for running!)
4. Parent Helpers and Hot Tip Guides
5. Bunnings Mentone BBQ – 30th October – please help support the club

This Saturday…
- Start times: 8:15AM for U6-U9 & 10AM for U10-U17
- Set up help: Parents of U9 BOYS are on set up – please make the effort to arrive at 7:20am to help out. Parents of Open Boys are on pack up duty.
- Coffee van: YES!
- BBQ: YES! Parents of U6 Girls & U10 Boys are on BBQ cooking duties – dust off those aprons!
- Bananas: YES! We have lots of free bananas each week (donated from Coles) – make sure you grab some.
- Where to go: little athletes should line up behind their age group sign (i.e. U8) and say hello to their Age Group Manager (who can tick them off as being present). It would be great if the parents could stand a little behind the children to allow them to mingle and gather. It can be a little intimidating for those little athletes to be surrounded by lots of people!
- What to bring: water bottle, hat & sunscreen (if sunny).
- Parent duties: have you signed up for 4 duties during the season? Please do so as we are all volunteers working with our kids to improve their athletic skill development. SIGN UP HERE
- Car parking: we have car parking at the track as well as in the streets – please be mindful of where you park in the streets so our neighbours can access their driveways.
- Wet weather: We shouldn’t need it this week, but we do have a wet weather button on our website (in the top left hand corner), which we will update at 7.30am on Saturday mornings if the weather is concerning – and again at 9.15am so as to cover the second session.
- Program: here is the program for this week – Program 3. We might need to adjust it slightly on the day to accommodate group sizes.

Halloween night – Friday 28th October (replacing the Saturday 29th October session)
- Given the Melbourne Cup Long weekend (for many), we will not hold a Little Athletics Session next Saturday. Instead – we do a FRIDAY night special! And special it will be – a Halloween special….
- We’ve been doing this for a number of years, including in the pre-pandemic years, and it’s always a lot of fun. Dust off those costumes and get your relay game ON…. Always one of the favourite sessions for kids.
- It will be a 5:15pm warm-up for all, with an estimated to finish by 7pm.

Club points and childrens’ results
-
You might have noticed that the Season Calendar has a * next to some of the dates. These are weeks where each child will earn points towards the end of year Centre Championship Awards (which are awarded for each age group across the whole season). This Saturday is the first of those dates – and we are also officially measuring most events this week.
-
Points accrue over each week of Regular Centre Competition event days that don’t conflict with Regional or State event days during the season. Members can refer to our code of conduct on our website for more information.
- Here is a link to the season calendar for those who haven’t seen it – https://www.sandringhamlac.com.au/index.php/season-calendar/
- You may also not know that you can access your chilrdrens’ results for each of their events on ResultsHubHQ. Here is a link to our website which shows you how to register https://www.sandringhamlac.com.au/index.php/results-2/
- Nicole (our President) is looking for a person in each of the sessions who could help entering the field results data into Results HQ. We would provide a laptop, comfy chair & desk, plus a cup of tea and coffee (and probably a free snag!). Sold? Please help – if you can on a regular basis, or on certain weeks, that would be amazing. Please email Nicole at sandringhampresident@lavic.com.au

Parent Helpers and Hot Tip Guides
- Don’t know how to measure discus or lung jump? Thinking you might be more of a hindrance than any help? Think again – we love all helpers and really need everyone to pitch in! The kids also love seeing you help out and take an interest in their sports.
- We have many helpful hints which are all located on Stack Team App under ‘documents’. For example here is the Long Jump document.
- At the moment we have only 9 parents signed up for Duty on Saturday and we need about 68 spots filled over the 2 sessions. Please sign up or at least certainly jump in during the day and give the AGMs and coaches a hand. Raking sandpits is something we can all do relatively well.

Sunday 30 October – Bunnings BBQ fundraiser
The club is holding a fundraiser BBQ at Mentone Bunnings on Sunday 30 October. The last fundraiser we held at Bunnings (only 2 months ago) we raised over $2,000 for the Club. However, it was fully manned by only the committee members – please give us a hand this time. We know you may be away, but if you are not and could assist for 2 hours (between 9am-3pm) please email us sandringham@lavic.com.au
