We are immensely proud to share the news of our athletes who spent most of the weekend at Lakeside completing the State Combined Events (where you have to compete in a set number of events including 800m, hurdle, sprint, throw and a jump). We could not be prouder of these athletes for giving it a go, achieving personal bests and for others a podium finish.
Look at their smiles….that is what it is all about. Several of these athletes competed for the first time, a few have endured a massive journey to compete, some have diligently worked hard during lockdown and improved every step of the way.
A conversation I had (during our busy Little Aths session on Saturday) with gorgeous athlete ‘Fiona’ was about being your ‘personal best’. To Fiona, she felt as though the expectation was to win and her wonderful father supported the conversation explaining personal best.
At Sandy Little Aths, we are cognisant of the balance between successes and achieving personal bests. Our coaches, committee and parents work hard to ensure everyone achieves their personal best. If this means an athlete wins a race, or a jump or a throw, let’s congratulate them. If an athlete achieves their personal best, let’s celebrate this even more.
Little athletics teaches many life skills….teamwork, gratitude, success, loss, anxiety, pressure, and so on. Sandy Little Aths is fortunate to have such a strong nurturing community combined with good coaches, committee members and parents to ensure all athletes achieve.
Once again well done to our athletes who competed this weekend at State Combined Athletics. We know it is exhausting, but so rewarding for all. We hope these athletes share their stories at school, with friends, at Little Aths over the coming week.
A huge thank you to Todd for Team Managing Saturday, Gordon for Team Managing Sunday (with no children competing!) and Craig Furber supporting all the athletes over the whole weekend.
Well done: Pippa, Orla, Leo, Harry, William, Harry, Kaitlin, Caden, Isabelle, Tom, Leni, Faith, Matthew, William, Max, Charli and Riley.

Still no word from LAVIC on track and field competition yet (or relays)…. we will let you know as soon as we know but assume they were waiting to see how the State Combined Event went before any decision was made…we might know more by the time we send our weekly news bulletin.
