The Sandringham Amateur Athletic Club was formed in 1930, training at the Beach Oval in Sandringham and competing at Tulip St. Over the years S.A.A.C produced many State and Victorian Champions in walking, cross country, hurdles, field and sprinting. After the new track in Glamis Ave, Hampton was opened in October 1962, the first ‘Midgets’ group was established with athletes from 10 to 13 years old competing in a range of track and field events.
Following the success of the first Little Athletics Centre in Geelong in 1964, S.A.A.C were the second Club in Victoria and the first in metropolitan Melbourne, to establish a junior competition. With over 660 children registered in our first season in 1966, Sandringham Little Athletics Centre was off to a flying start!
We are governed by Little Athletics Victoria, which was established in 1967 as the Victorian Little Athletics Association. Victoria, N.S.W, the Northern Territory and Western Australia were the founding members of the Australian Little Athletics Union in 1972.
