Marian competed at the Sandringham little athletics club from 1971 until 1973 when she went overseas to Germany for 3 months. Upon returning she went to Sacre Coeur Private school in Glen Iris. She was Sports Captain at her school PCW in Windsor in Year six. At Sacre Coeur she continued with her Athletics and was also very involved in Swimming and Basketball.
During her time at Sandringham she was known for her successes in Long Jump, High Jump and Triple jump. She competed for Sandringham in the 100m relay (under 9) and in shot put, Discus and High Jump.  She was in semi-finals at the Regionals at Waverley Park where she won High Jump (1.05m pictured below).

Marian went on to compete at Olympic Park in 1972 and came 6th in High Jump (1.05m) finals.
In 1973 Marian won the Girls High jump, Triple jump and came second in Discus and Shot put and 3rd in Long jump but then went on to break the club record. Marian also came first in the Track and field Championships in 1972. Marian equalled the U/10 High jump club record in 1973 with a jump of 1.22m, and broke the Club record in the U/10 girl’s Triple jump (8.07m) and again broke the Long jump Club record (4.12m).

Her Long jump record was so impressive that until last year (37 years later) she still held the under 10 Long Jump record!  Meg Cairns now holds her title!  However her biggest accomplishment in life would be her two beautiful girls Natalie and Nicole (below) who have both competed at Sandringham over the years. Marian is well known around Hampton. She has spent most of her life here and is known through the girls attending St Joan of Arc, around LAS where she has assisted over the years and at Netball and Basketball where her girls both play.

See the original newspaper articles from 1973 showing her breaking records, photos of Marian with Governor Sir Rohan Delacombe and her winning high jump at Waverley Park.
