Little Athletics is open to children aged from 5 to 16. Age groups are determined by the year your child was born and their age on the 1st January 2019.
We use the LAVic’s age group calculator (click here) to determine which age group your child is in.
Little Athletics is wholly run by volunteers to keep costs to a minimum. For a season that runs from September to March, the registration fee is extremely good value. As well as the registration fee there is a small charge to participate in additional events such as Region Relays and Region Track and Field Events.
For the 2019-2020 season fees are $210 for the first athlete and subsequent discounts for siblings. We have an early bird price also valid until Midnight 8 September.
Registration fees are only acceptable online at the link of the registration page or via the Little Athletics Victoria website. Your fees include payment to Little Athletics Victoria which covers insurance for athletes, track hire to the Athletics Victoria club, coaching and administration costs. The cost also covers the general running of the centre and new equipment.
NO REFUNDS will be given once you have registered so if you are unsure, please use the two free trial days we offer (only available in October).
Unregistered competitors are not covered by Little Athletics Victoria’s insurance cover. They cannot compete in Centre, Regional or State championships, multi-event days and their weekly results will not be recorded on the computer system.
Note: We do not offer discounts for Health care card holders and results are not recorded if you are trialling but will be added if you go on to register after this.
Registered Little Athletes can also participate in Cross Country from April to July for a small additional fee. Children who have not registered for the summer season may still participate in Cross Country but the full fee is applicable.

We welcome first time members (ie never registered at Little Athletics in the past) to trial 1 or 2 weeks. Please contact us on [email protected] if you are interested.
Children need to be within the Age Group Range to trial at any Centre.
Results for track events are immediately available and field events as they are submitted through ResultsHQ or as they are entered for field events.
Personal best performances are highlighted in ResultsHQ so please print out your PB Sheet to the Canteen for an icy pole reward.
PB Sheets can then be placed in a scrapbook to give you an ongoing record of your performances or checkout your ResultsHQ site. The PB Sheets are a great way to see if you have improved your performance from week to week.

Coaching is an important part of the program at Sandringham Little Athletics. We provide coaching during our weekly events to help athletes learn how to do each event. Sandringham Little Athletics also makes available mid week coaching sessions for Sandringham Little Athletics athletes during the summer season with Under 9 and Under 10 athletes having free access prior to Christmas. All of our coaches are fully trained, qualified, and hold current working with children checks and really enthusiastic about helping our athletes achieve their best performance.
If you are interested in coaching we’d love to have you at Sandringham Little Athletics. All you need to do is complete an Introduction to Coaching Course run by Little athletics Victoria and have a current working with children. A number of these sessions are held during the year. For more details go to the LAV website.
If Sandringham Little Athletics athletes are keen to be involved in Relay competition during the summer season, there will be relay training sessions held during the week, usually on a Wednesday night from 6-7pm in the lead up to the event. The Under 6 age group will participate in a modified program, which consists of a combination of track and field events, and skills training called the “On Track” program.
During the Cross Country season, the athletes run a single race of a distance between 1 and 3 km, depending on their age. Regional and State Championships are held each year for Cross Country. Open to all athletes Under 9 – Under 15.
UNDER 6 ATHLETES
Little Athletics Sandringham conducts the On Track Athletics Skills Program for our youngest athletes. On Track is a progressive skill based program that aims to introduce children to athletics through instruction, skill development and fun related activities. Each athletic skill is broken into component parts, which can be difficult for young athletes to grasp at once.
Your Under 6 athlete will learn two parts of two skills each week. For example, one of the skills may be running. The children may learn (i) to keep their eyes focussed straight ahead and (ii) to lean lightly forward using games and activities that keep the children busy for about 30 minutes for each skill. At the conclusion of On Track, the athletes will take part in one or two events based on the skills learnt that day, such as a 100m sprint or hurdles race.
UNDER 7 – 16 ATHLETES
Athletes warm-up and stretch for 10-15 minutes – don’t miss this! Good habits start early and a proper warm-up is the best way to avoid injury. Even the young can strain muscles!
Athletes assemble into age groups to participate in 4-5 competitive events each week – varying over a three week program cycle. Parent co-ordinators take athletes from event to event and measure and record results. We aim to have a coach at each event to provide instruction.
Parental Supervision: A parent or guardian of U6 to U16 MUST BE in attendance at all times whilst their children are competing.
Age Groups: A competitor may compete in any event of their age group.
We have a uniform required for competition days and this information along with suitable footwear can be found on our website under Members – Uniform.
