We are back on this Saturday – fingers crossed this crazy weather improves and the rain stays away! It was such a shame that we couldn’t hold the Halloween Night last Friday, it’s usually a lot of fun. But we push on!
This week’s email covers the following topics:
1. Saturday 5th November
2. Saturday 12 November- it’s a big day for Sandy!
3. Relays – cut off date is 12 November for registrations
4. Bunnings BBQ – What a fantastic result!
This Saturday 5th November
Below are some general details and info for this Saturday:
Start times: 8:15AM for U6-U9 & 10AM for U10-U17
Parent help: Parents of U6 BOYS are on set up – please make the effort to arrive at 7:20am to help out. Parents of U11 GIRLS are on pack up duty.
Coffee van: Yes!
BBQ: Yes! Parents of U7 BOYS & U12 GIRLS are on BBQ cooking duties.
What to bring: water bottle, a hat and sunscreen… PLEASE LET IT BE SUNNY!
Parent duties: have you signed up for 4 duties during the season? Please do so as we are all volunteers working with our kids to improve their athletic skill development. SIGN UP HERE
Where to go: little athletes should line up behind their age group sign (i.e. U8) and say hello to their Age Group Manager (who can tick them off as being present). It would be great if the parents could stand a little behind the children to allow them to mingle and gather. It can be a little intimidating for those little athletes to be surrounded by lots of big people!
Car parking: we have car parking at the track as well as in the streets – please be mindful of where you park in the streets so our neighbours can access their driveways and you don’t get parking fines!
Wet weather: You will probably be quite familiar with this now… We have a wet weather button on our website (in the top left hand corner), which we will update at 7.30am on Saturday mornings if the weather is concerning – and again at 9.15am so as to cover the second session.
Program: here is the program for this week – CLICK HERE FOR INFO. We will also try to squeeze in another run at the end for the U9’s to get them ready for the forthcoming relays.
Saturday November 12th
Saturday 12th November is a big one for Sandy! We have about 20 members competing at the State Combined event in Albert Park – good luck, go get them!
We will run a program at our track that day for all other members. It’s the Coles Community Round, where we hold the Connors Run event at the track and will also have x2 World Champion Kelsey-Lee Barber coming to visit us from 8.30am for about an hour.
No matter where you are – it will be fab!
Relays – cut off date is November 12th
The relays portal is now live to register. Here is a reminder about what it is all about – CLICK HERE FOR INFO
U8’s can join the relay program but can compete at Mentone only (they’re too young for the broader state competitions yet – next year!).
U9-U17 can compete at Mentone and Regionals. Teams are selected through a process which involves recorded times, coaches input and the selection committee.
Sunday Bunnings BBQ – What a fantastic result!
The club’s second BBQ fundraiser for this year was held at Mentone Bunnings on Sunday 30th October. It was a huge success! Thank you to all the volunteers including parents of children – Tess, Talia, Simon Glendenning, Damian Hariss, Alan lille, Anna Owen, Mel Withington, Rachael and Coco and Anton Duddy.
Without their support we wouldn’t have been able to achieve the results that we did on the weekend – final profit for the club was fantastic (and apparently one of the biggest days for Bunnings since March 2019). It appeared that everybody loved some DIY this day and a snag or two to go with it.
In summary – all the volunteers were amazing, passionate and full of enthusiasm in order to help the club out on a long weekend… Some have already put their hands up asking when the next Bunnings event is on!
A special thank you from the committee to Nick Milat who has worked extremely hard to get this organised – you’ve done a fantastic job and we thank you for the many hours you have dedicated to this. As a sign of our appreciation we gifted Nick 5 trays of snags… (just joking, he probably can’t quite face any more sausages right now).
Catch you Saturday everyone!
Regards,
SLAC Committee
